Germany's F1 identity was forged twice. First in the 1950s β Mercedes-Benz arrived with Juan Manuel Fangio in the W196 and won everything in sight before withdrawing after Le Mans 1955. Then again in the 1990s and 2000s, when Michael Schumacher's seven world titles, 91 wins and his Ferrari rebuild defined an entire era of the sport.
Sebastian Vettel kept the lineage going with four straight championships at Red Bull from 2010 to 2013. Nico Rosberg landed the 2016 title in dramatic fashion before retiring days later. Mercedes-Benz returned as a works team in 2010 and proceeded to win eight straight constructors' championships through 2021 β the most dominant constructor run in F1 history. The grid is currently quieter on German names, but the engineering footprint runs deep.
